SDK for flash MCU

The NET.08 software development kit is based on the DigitalDNA eight-bit 68HC908GP32 flash MCU. It contains a development environment for embedding network connectivity into MCU-based devices without requiring an RTOS or TCP/IP stack in the device. Flash memory on the chip allows devices to be debugged, enhanced, or upgraded remotely through the network. The SDK includes an EMIT v. 3.0 SDK; Netscape v. 4.05 and Internet Explorer v. 4.0; a standard emMicro port to the 68HC08 in C source code; emWare hex file used in programming the device; and a reference board including the 68HC908GP32 flash microcontroller. It's available now for $99.

Compressed speech algorithm for DSP

Mixed Excitation Linear Predictive encoding (MELP) is a real-time, Internet-enabled, 2.4Kbps compressed speech algorithm for TI C54xx DSPs. It's based on a new communication standard developed for extremely low bit rates. The MELP Development System is supported by the SigC54x Development Platform and DirectDSP software, which provides direct access, analysis, monitoring, and real-time debug capabilities from C/C++, MATLAB, Visual BASIC, and LabVIEW host environments. The cost per binary copy of the MELP algorithm ranges from $295 to $595, depending on quantity. The MELP Development System costs $35,000.

Eight-bit embedded core

The eZ80 is a synthesizable core built into the Z80 eight-bit embedded microprocessor, allowing embedded access to the Internet. The eZ80 combines both microprocessor and DSP capabilities on a single chip. The core family will feature an optimized TCP/IP stack, linear addressing that supports up to 16MB of addressing space, and DSP capabilities. The first eZ80 microprocessor will be available in early 2000, and will include UARTs, DMA, serial I/O, analog and digital modems, timers, I/O, and MMU peripherals. The eight-bit version costs from $3 to $10, based on configuration.

EMIT-based SDK

The ChipConnect Software Developers' Kit (SDK) with reference-design hardware offers Internet-based flash reprogrammability, plus monitoring and control of eight- and 16-bit microcontroller-based embedded systems. The key software component is the EMIT evaluation tool from emWare. The M16C ChipConnect SDK for the M16C family of 16-bit MCUs includes a reference board with on-chip flash. It also includes a complete set of M16C software development tools. Two versions of the M16C ChipConnect SDK are currently available. The standard version costs $99. The ChipConnect SDK+ includes all the standard features standard, plus the Light & Sound plug-on board that adds a four-digit alphanumeric display and audio output, and costs $189.

Embedded Web server with Internet security

EmWeb v. 5.1 is an embedded Web server outfitted with Digest Authentication, a security standard for the World Wide Web. OEMS, embedded engineers, and end users can monitor their devices via the Internet in a protected environment. It runs in non-preemptive, run-to-completion environments, such as with routers and printers. It works with any standard browser and TCP/IP stack and doesn't require an OS. EmWeb v. 5.1 has a small footprint, and full support for HTTP 1.1, SML, HTML, TCN, and other Web standards. It's available now.
