In “Device Power Management for Real Time Embedded System,” Muhammad Ali Awan and Stefan M. Petters at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in Portugal investigate the power dissipation problems in real time systems generated by I/O devices.

They describe an intra-task device scheduling algorithm for real time systems that allows shut-down of devices while ensuring the system schedulability. It provides an improvement in energy efficiency of up to 90% in the best case when compared to the state-of-the-art techniques.
