AMD, Acacia resolve patent disputes through licensing agreements
SAN FRANCISCO — Acacia Research Corp. said Friday (Sept. 30) that Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has entered into licensing agreements with two of its wholly owned subsidiaries, dissolving two patent infringement suits that were pending against AMD in U.S. District Courts.
In March, Acacia (Newport Beach, Calif.) filed suit against AMD, along with Intel Corp., charging the companies with patent infringement patent infringement of computer memory cache coherency technology.
Friday Acacia said AMD has entered into a licensing agreement with Computer Cache Coherency Corp. covering a portfolio of patents that apply to certain core logic computer chipsets, dissolving patent infringement lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for Northern California.
Acacia said AMD has also entered into a licensing agreement with VData LLC covering multi-dimensional bar code system technology, dissolving a patent infringement suit pending in U.S. District Court in Minnesota.
The financial terms of the licensing agreements were not disclosed.
Acacia said AMD is the first licensee of the Computer Cache Coherency technology, which the company said relates to interface circuits used by intelligent peripheral devices with cache memory to communicate with the main computer memory.
The multi-dimensional bar code system technology relates to encoding and reading a data matrix consisting of an array of data cells with a border, Acacia said.
