ARM, Parallogic collaborate on gateways
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ARM Ltd. has signed a development pact with Virginia-based Parallogic Inc., porting Parallogic's StriaEdge software to the ARM11 MPcore processor multicore processor. The pact will expand ARM's presence in residential gateways, particularly those carrying multimedia traffic used by carriers in providing triple-play services. The ARM11 has a 400-Mbit/sec throughput, allowing home networks to carry multiple HDTV streams.
Parallogic implements parallel implementations of the TCP/IP protocol stack, allowing more efficient Quality of Service mechanisms in mixed video-voice-data networks. In the MPcore implementation, one core running Linux is dedicated to control-plane operations, while the remaining cores operate on the data plane, operating on packets.
