Via calls for 802.11n patent pool
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Via Licensing Corp. issued a call for 802.11n patents Wednesday (August 26) in an effort to create a patent pool for the IEEE standard now in a near-final status.
Via invited anyone with a patent or application found by an independent evaluator to be essential to .11n to join a group that plans to discuss commercial terms of a joint patent license to be offered under reasonable and nondiscriminatory terms. Via is taking submissions via email to submissions@vialicensing.com. Information can be requested from wifi@vialicensing.com.
Via is collaborating with the IEEE which is setting up its own patent pools starting with one on its power over Ethernet standard. Via currently manages eight patent pools including one for earlier versions of Wi-Fi.
