Low-power arena heats up
Power management is a hot topic these days, literally and figuratively.
Designers are eager to deploy as many power-management tricks/techniques these days to reduce the heat in their systems.
Then, at the other (low-power) end of the spectrum, designers need to reduce power to get as much battery life as possible, particularly in industrial applications where, in some instances, you don't want to ever change the batteries.
I just wrote up a product announcement for Microchip (it's NanoWatt XLP EXtreme low-power technology), whereby they've lowered the bar for sleep current to 20 nA.
Looks like they're trying to go head-to-head with TI's MSP430.
The only tradeoff in the Microchip solution, as far as I can see, is that it has a slower wakeup time.
I'm sure we haven't heard the last from these guys in this area. It'll be interesting to see what follows.
