DDC-I, a supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, has joined the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Consortium, a managed consortium of The Open Group.

DDC-I's Deos is an embedded RTOS that has been used in hundreds of safety-critical avionics applications on commercial and military aircraft. Certified to DO-178B DAL A since 1998, the time and space partitioned RTOS features deterministic real-time response and employs patented "slack scheduling" to deliver high CPU utilization.

"Software reuse through portability has been a design element of Deos from its inception," said Bob Morris, president and CEO of DDC-I. "Software portability, interoperability, reuse, ease of certification, and rapid technology delivery are fundamental to everything we do. We look forward to working with the FACE Consortium to further these mutual goals and help reduce the cost of developing, maintaining and updating avionics software."

"Adherence to the FACE Technical Standard has become a procurement requirement of the U.S. Department of Defense aviation industry, so equipment manufacturers need more efficient technology and processes to produce FACE conformant and airworthy applications faster,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group. “Companies such as DDC-I that exhibit a long-standing commitment to standards, interoperability, certification, verification and software quality in safety- and security-critical spaces enable the advancement of the FACE community. We welcome DDC-I as a new member of the FACE Consortium and look forward to its contributions and help in achieving our goals.”

FACE is aviation-focused professional group made up of U.S. industry suppliers, customers and users. The consortium is creating a technologically appropriate open FACE reference architecture, standards and business model. It has over 50 members spread across sponsors, principals and associate member status.
