Two 50-Mbps RS-485/RS-422 transceivers, the ADM3065E and ADM3066E from Analog Devices, provide ±12 kV ESD protection in accordance with IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 requirements. Intended for use in harsh environments commonly found in industrial automation, motor control, military, and avionics applications, the devices operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and allow the connection of up to 128 nodes on the bus.

The ADM306xE series has a VCC operating voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V, while the ADM3066E integrates a VIO logic supply that enables operation down to 1.62 V and allows direct connection to low-power processors and FPGAs that operate at 1.8 V. With full receiver short-circuit, open-circuit, and bus-idle failsafe, applications using the ADM306xE are immune to common real-world faults, such as incorrect wiring.
