WIZnet expands from wired to wireless focus

Embedded.com
WIZnet Inc. announced the new release of Wireless Module, WIZ610wi, and expanded its focus beyond its existing wired product line. The WIZ610wi is an 802.11bg WLAN Access Point module a pin-head package.

Benefits of the wireless module include:

  • Serial to WLAN is easily implemented for systems that have a UART interface.
  • Development time is reduced, as WLAN driver porting is not required.
  • Excellent stability is guaranteed as a result of independent operation.

According to WIZnet, for systems that use an Ethernet interface, WLAN can be added through MII to MII and PHY to PHY. The simultaneous use of WLAN and Ethernet is implemented using a switching PHY chip.

WIZ610wi is priced at $34.90. The company claims that this price is 35% less than that of existing competitors based on 1,000 piece orders.
