I/O chipset

The IOP310 I/O Processor Chipset combines the 80200 processor, based on the Xscale micro-architecture, with the Intel 80312 I/O companion chip, which coordinates peripheral functions such as memory and physical I/O connections. The chipset*s processor comes in four speeds, ranging from 333MHz to 733MHz. The companion chip*s components include a 64-bit PCI-to-PCI bridge, an SDRAM controller, and a high-speed application accelerator unit for RAID parity generation. The chipset is designed for product migration from previous processors. It*s code-compatible with the StrongArm SA100 processor, and the Xscale micro-architecture is compliant with version 5TE of the ARM architecture. The 80312 I/O companion chip is peripheral-compatible with the IOP303 I/O processor. The chipset is available now. It costs between $70 and $93.

Serial-bus stack

Blazenet is a high-speed serial-bus stack that supports the specifications defined in the IEEE 1394 standard. It provides transparent bridging and routing between IEEE 1394 and the Internet. This includes Ethernet bridging that supports fragmentation and reassembly, and invalidation of ARP caches. In addition, applications developed using the RTCS embedded Internet stack are portable to IEEE 1394 media. The Blazenet stack consists of required core components and optional configurations that support the transaction-layer interface, as well as asynchronous and isochronous transfers. Basic operations include sending and receiving asynchronous read/write/lock operations, serial-bus management with support for node control, bus management, bus reset, self ID completion, and cycle master. As part of the Solution development environment, Blaze is integrated with the MQX RTOS, RTCS Internet stack, and Solution host tools. A single project license for BlazeNet starts at $30,000. It*s available now.

Java processor and companions

Lightfoot is a 32-bit Java processor that, in combination with several companion products, targets portable and Internet-enabled embedded devices. One of these companions is LightSmart, a smart card platform for JavaCard v. 2.1.1. The LightSmart platform features a tailored real-time execution environment, compilers for C and Java, and a suite of development tools. Also based on the Lightfoot core, the LightConnect family is a series of device-based Java processors for Internet-enabled personal consumer devices, such as PDAs and handheld computers.

Board-support package

The Jump Start Platform Library Kit is a board support package that includes a pre-configured build tree platform for x86-based hardware. The build tree platform includes a floppy drive, an IDE drive, PS2-style keyboard/mouse support, CRT display with resolution choices, and serial COM port functionality. The kit features a standard set of drivers, binary image build file settings, and registry file settings. These features enable designers to configure drivers and build them into a Windows CE image. CE Launcher is also included with the Platform Library Kit. It enables Windows CE to boot from a variety of disk media on embedded PCs without the use of MS-DOS. It*s available now for $2,495, not including royalties.
