The PICDEM.net Internet/Ethernet demonstration board enables embedded connectivity over industrial, automotive, and consumer networks. It uses the 40-pin PIC16F877 flash microcontroller and TCP/IP firmware for the network interface. After the initial setup of the IP Ethernet address, engineers can access the various functions on the board through a network or the Internet. The PICDEM.net board also features Ethernet and RS-232 interfaces. A remote web browser, such as Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator, is used to display inputs from the board (potentiometers and switches), drive the LCD display, and control LEDs. The PICmicro device acts as a web server. The initial board configuration is performed via the RS-232 port using a standard terminal program to configure the IP and Ethernet addresses. The demo board is also equipped with a six-pin modular connector to interface directly with Microchip's MPLAB in-circuit debugger. The PICDEM.net board costs $299. It is available now.
