LynuxWorks releases LynxOS v. 4.0

Embedded Systems Design

LynxOS 4.0 features Linux binary compatibility, as well as enhancements in networking, porting support, and performance. It lets users run Linux applications under LynxOS or augment real-time applications on LynxOS with applications from Linux. The company claims that this capability eliminates porting and maintenance issues when migrating existing Linux applications to the LynxOS platform. This compatibility is implemented by means of dynamically linked shared libraries. Version 4.0 offers Posix conformance and open, standard application programming interfaces (APIs). LynxOS networking enhancements include IPSec, IPv6, and an integrated firewall. The TCP/IP stack has been augmented for reentrancy, determinism, and performance. According to a LynuxWorks spokesperson, internal tests demonstrate that the task response of LynxOS 4.0 is 30% greater than the previous release. It's available now.
