64-bit MIPS processor

Embedded Systems Design
The VR7701 is a 64-bit MIPS processor, and the first product in the VR7700 family of integrated processors. The VR7700 core builds on the VR5500 superscalar processor architecture by adding 256KB of on-chip L2 cache and a high-speed DDR SDRAM memory controller. The VR7701 processor includes a 400MHz core with a 64-bit 133MHz PCI-X 1.0 bus interface and two 10/100Base Ethernet MACs. It has a local bus unit with two serial interfaces, an interrupt controller, and several timers. It uses the same superpipelined out-of-order instruction execution architecture as the VR5500 core. Software support includes the Linux, VxWorks, and other operating systems, as well as compilers from Algorithmics, Green Hills Software, and Red Hat. Samples of the VR7701 processor in a 500-pin advanced ball-grid array package are available now for $99 each. It will be available in production quantities in the fourth quarter.
