ADI fattens Blackfin portfolio with low-power media chip

The ADSP-BF533, a new member of the Blackfin processor family, operates at 600MHz and 1.2GMACS, consuming 280mW. It's a media processor designed for low-power audio, video, and communications products, specifically those that support MPEG-4, H.264, and Windows Media. The BF533 supports Embedded Linux, ThreadX, and Nucleus operating systems and combines a 32-bit RISC-like instruction set with 16-bit multiply accumulate (MAC). The BF533 has 148KB of on-chip memory, including 16KB of instruction cache and 32KB of data cache. It's offered in two frequency grades and costs $16.95 to $19.95 in 10,000 piece quantities.
