The VPOM-1510 Virtual Platform, a software emulation of Texas Instruments' Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform, provides a desktop environment for application, middleware, operating system, and device driver development. The core of that environment is a software model of the entire OMAP systema platform for developing wireless handsetsincluding processors, peripherals, and user interfaces, as well as connections to serial ports and network connections. The VPOM-1510 comes in two forms: the Virtual Platform (VP) and the Virtual Platform Development Kit (PDK). The Virtual Platform gives the software developer control and visibility into the hardware to set breakpoints, single step, and watch signals. With the VP, a developer can preset hardware configurations such as switch settings, camera source, and COM port settings to develop and test new software. The PDK offers the same functionality as the VP but adds the ability to customize the platform hardware by using components from a library or new ones created with the authoring tools provided in the PDK. Using the PDK, developers can realize their entire systems without a hardware prototype. The VPOM-1510 supports a variety of operating systems including Symbian, Windows CE, and Linux. It's available now for $1,990.
