Dallas, TX — Texas Instruments (TI) has boosted the speed of its TMS320TCI6487 from 1 GHz to 1.2 GHz, giving the three-core base station DSP an effective 3.6 GHz of processing power. The upgraded TCI6487 comes with a new version of TI's LTE software library. The library now uses on-chip accelerators to decode uplink channel quality information (CQI). This optimization saves up to 1GHz of DSP processing—a savings equivalent to adding an additional core to the DSP.
TI has partnered with Tata Elxsi to produce a full physical layer reference design based on the LTE library. TI also offers an LTE reference platform from Commagility. In addition to these platforms, TI offers a complete LTE analog signal chain, including data converters, RF products, power management, clocks and amplifiers.
The 1.2 GHz TCI6487 will be sampling in 1Q to targeted cellular infrastructure customers and will be available to the broader market in 2Q09. It will be on display at the Mobile World Congress Conference in Barcelona, February 16-19, Hall 8, TI's booth #8A84. Version three of the LTE library will be available in 2Q09.
