LONDON Abacus Embedded, part of the Abacus Group which Avnet acquired earlier this year has been integrated in to Avnet Embedded and a new corporate structure established.
As a result Avnet Embedded's headcount has gone from 13 to over 100 employees and it has extended its activities to cover the whole of Europe. The division is run by Martin Brooks, who was previously was managing director of the Abacus Embedded Group and board member of the Abacus Group, who was appointed vice president of Avnet Embedded in March.
The Abacus Embedded brand name will be changed to Avnet Embedded which principally effects the former Abacus Embedded product divisions in Germany and Italy. Some former Abacus Embedded group companies will continue to do business under their current names while operating under the Avnet Embedded corporate umbrella. These include Axess Technology in France; the wireless business of TDC in the U.K.; and Trident in the U.K., Benelux and Nordic countries.
“Our new structure delivers a larger pool of technical specialists, an expanded linecard, enhanced system integration expertise, backed up by local product laboratories, all on a pan-European basis, making Avnet Embedded ideally positioned to help our customers choose the right solution for their specific needs,” said Brooks. “By combining the strengths of both companies we have created a new organisation which is a big step towards our goal of firmly establishing Avnet Embedded as Europe's number one distributor of embedded solutions and services.”
Within the new corporate structure, Avnet Embedded has broadened its franchise portfolio to over 1000 and its geographical coverage. Further announcements are expected in concerning additions to its linecard and the expansion of existing distribution agreements to cover other European geographies.
The company has labs in the U.K., Italy and Finland to assist in customers integration and to produce product demos and design references is now a necessity in this fast moving and growing market space.

Avnet Embedded is a product business group within Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, an operating region of Avnet, Inc. It was set up in february 2008 and initially did business in Germany, Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe
Trident is a leading technical franchised distributors of displays, monitors, embedded computers and operating systems, panel PCs and printers. It also also provides a range of value added services. TDC is a specialised wireless and networking distributor, providing embedded components for wireless applications such as GSM, GPRS, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ZigBee. Axess Technology operates via a network of local sales offices throughout France.
