Acal flat but sees order improvement

LONDON — Acal's sales of electronic components in continental Europe and in IT products have been poor in the six months to the end of September but despite this, overall sales have grown by 4% to £129.1million with particularly strong growth in the IT Parts Services division.

Although sales of the Electronics Components Division were flat at £48.4million, Richarard Moon, Acal's Chariman says there have been some positive signs with 15% year-on-year order growth in the last quarter. “Gross margins have held up well in a competitive environment and the sales mix has moved more towards niche semiconductors, reflecting our strategy. This has been achieved by the continuing process of introducing new suppliers as well as extending geographic coverage for existing suppliers.”

The earnings on sales of electronic components was £1million before interest and tax.

Last year following a drop in sales of 12%, the company reorganised its electronic component division and was rewarded with a growth in component sales of 9% in the year ended in March 2005.
