Acal snaps up French distributor

LONDON — Acal has acquired Mecodis SA, a value-added distributor of electronic components based in Paris. Its turnover for the year ended December 31 2003 was €6.8million and its net assets at that date were approximately €3.0million including €1.7million of cash.

Tony Laughton, Acal's Chief Executive said, “Mecodis has an established reputation and a demand-creation approach which fits well with Acal's own distribution model.

Founded in 1981, the company’s main office is in Creteil with another facility in the South of France. It had been part of a network for ten years with two other independent French distributors — MODUL BUROTIC and CHIP LINE — whose total turnover was said to be €55 millions.

For more than 20 years it has been a distributor for Micropchip and other manufacturers in its line card include SMSC, Clare, Samsung, Hynix, Finder, Fox, Scott, ETEC and Berquist.
