A three-axis MEMS accelerometer, the IIS2DLPC from STMicroelectronics, changes operating mode on the fly from low power to high resolution. The sensor offers one high-performance mode and four low-power modes with power consumption of just 50 nA in power-down mode, below 1 µA in active low-power mode, and 120 µA in high-performance mode.
The flexibility of the IIS2DLPC enables designers to build longer-lasting battery-powered industrial sensor nodes and medical devices, tamperproof smart meters, and smart power-saving or motion-activated functions. With four user-selectable full scales of ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g, and ±16 g, the sensor is capable of measuring accelerations with output data rates from 1.6 Hz to 1600 Hz.
