Acquisition expands test house coverage

LONDON — KTRL, the group that owns Hull-based test and certification house KTL, has acquired all the shares in its competitor TRL Compliance Services from Richtec.

The acquisition is a substantial expansion for the KTL which has a specialist telecommunications testing facility while TRL expertise is in electrical and electronic products with five locations in the U.K.

The deal provides a KTL with a nationwide laboratory service with a total compliance workforce of more than 100.and enables it to expand its services into ATEX and military testing as well as new sectors.

TRL has its headquarters in Gloucestershire and divisions in West Lancashire, Hertfordshire, Hampshire and Warwickshire. The group will be able to tender for much larger contracts and an aim is to offer a true ‘one stop shop’ to customers both in the UK and throughout the world.

TRL’s managing director, Paul Harris, said, “It’s a great opportunity for the companies and their employees, with the synergies between our businesses bringing significant benefits to our clients. Like TRL, KTL is renowned for its expertise in safety testing, certification and approvals.”

Nigel Brain, KTRL chairman and managing director, said, “The acquisition of TRL is the first stage in our strategy to become one of the most significant laboratory services in the UK within the electrical, electronics and telecommunications sectors.”
