Agilent snaps up German encoder technology

Agilent Technologies has acquired exclusive rights to absolute encoder technology from Optolab Microsystems, a supplier of optoelectronic solutions based in Erfurt, Germany.

The technology is designed to produce the world's smallest, high-speed absolute encoder capable of resolutions ranging from 12 bits to 16 bits. It complements Agilent's own absolute encoders, introduced in 2002, which offer 8-bit and 10-bit resolutions.

Agilent expects to introduce new encoders for use in industrial automation applications based on this technology later this year.
