The STMicroelectronics and Cadence Design Systems joint venture, Accent, and SABER (Schlumberger Advanced Business Engineering Resources), a business unit of Schlumberger that provides test engineering outsourcing services for the semiconductor industry, have signed a technology and services partnership agreement.Accent provides electronic design services and platform-level intellectual property (IP).
By working together, SABER and Accent aim to supply a full stream between design and final silicon. The alliance gives should give customers a way to bridge the gap between design and production test by offering a turnkey solution from design to silicon debug and test engineering. Accent will offer its customers service and production test deployment provided by by SABER. At the same time, SABER customers will be offered the possibility of using Accent design services to improve product quality and reduce time -to-market.
Accent offers a range of electronic design services from system level architectural analysis to silicon implementation, together with advanced platform level intellectual property and design methodology.
SABER provides test engineering services, including first silicon validation, device characterization, test program development and deployment and diagnostic services for fault tracing and failure analysis.
Massimo Vanzi, Accent's general manager, says the aim of the deal “is to provide Accent customers with full testing services for the electronic products designed by us. The partnership with SABER will guarantee significant advantages to our clients, allowing them to outsourcing the full cycle of design and testing for their electronic application solutions.”
Tom Ho, vice president and general manager of SABER, said, “Being engaged early in the design cycle will allow SABER to define the optimal test methodology strategy for specific device needs to ensure high test coverage and accelerate the production ramp. This alliance will allow SABER engineers to work closely with design engineers during device validation, characterization and deployment to production.”
Accent was set up in1993 and is a joint venture between semiconductors designer and manufacturer, STMicroelectronics (51%), and Cadence Design Systems(49%), a supplier of software and services for electronic design.
It has over 110 engineers at its design centres in Vimercate (Milan), Genoa and Catania. Activities range from the design of ASICs and FPGAs to PCB design, and from digital to purely analog. It can analyse and define a system architecture, based on the re-utilisation of proprietary hardware platforms, alternatively using ARM, X86, PowerPC, MIPS, and several DSPs.
SABER provides consulting and engineering outsourcing. The company provides a multi-platform service, professional project management, engineering expertise, worldwide facilities and Internet -based interactive collaboration services.
It has facilities in the Far East and the US as well as Europe, a geographic split which should improve the marketing of Accent's services outside its traditional European base.
