Sharp Microelectronics and Arrow Electronics UK have cut a franchise deal in the first stage of a strategic rollout of the Japanese giant's devices across Europe through the broadline group.
The deal also expands on initial single-region agreements between Arrow and Sharp covering the US and Nordic regions. In the UK, Arrow will stock and support Sharp's complete range, which includes LCDs, memory, microcontrollers, voltage regulators and optoelectronic components.
Rick Fullarton, Sharp Microelectronics' distribution manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland, explained that the performance of Arrow in the Nordic region was already considered “impressive”.
“We now want to extend that successful relationship throughout the rest of Europe,” he added.
“The agreement with Arrow Electronics UK is a key part of this strategy. It will ensure that our growing customer base in the UK and Ireland has rapid access to the components and the technical support that they need to develop and manufacture their products.”
Arrow has opened an office in Bristol to serve OEMs and contract manufacturers based in the south west. Paul Lauder will run the site, which is based in Bristol's Motion Media Technology Centre.
