Atego takes model-based design to the next level with Vantage

Claiming 62% reduction in development costs and 23% more projects delivered on time, Atego  has taken the wraps off its Vantage integrated software tool suite  which combines Model-based Systems desingn and Software Engineering (MBSE), Asset-based Modular Design (SoS/CBD/SOA) and variable Product Line Engineering (PLE).

According to Hedley Apperly, Atego’s VP Product and Marketing, the combination of these three proven approaches into Model–based Product Line Engineering (MB-PLE) can reduce development costs by 62% and bring 23% more projects in on time.

Included in the package, he said, is the company's best practices implementation methodology with four modular tools: Modeler, Asset Library, Process Director and Check.

The core of Atego Vantage and the Atego Perspective process is MBSE, said Apperly, extended with Product Line Modeling and Asset Reuse. Product Line Modeling provides a common product family design with variation for only the specific pieces that differ.

The ‘common’ areas are designed and built using MBSE, ‘Variation’ is handled through Product Line Modeling and feature selection, while the ‘Pieces’ are sources from libraries of sub-system, service and component assets.

He said it is now available in a form that can deliver a real-world implementation that meets the ISO 26550-2013 ‘Software and systems engineering – Reference model for product line engineering and management’ and ISO 15288 ‘Systems and Software Engineering – System Lifecycle Processes’ standards.
