The TPS63000 is a buck-boost converter that's aimed at single-cell Li-Ion applications. The dc-to-dc converter delivers up to 96% efficiency over an input voltage range of 1.8 to 5.5 V, while generating an output current of up to 1.2 A. Housed in a 3- by 3-mm QFN package, the part operates at a fixed frequency of 1.5 MHz, allowing designers to implement a 2.2-μH inductor. Future generations will be produced in chip-scale packages.
The quiescent current is below 30 μA. The converter can be disabled to minimize battery drain. During shutdown, the load is completely disconnected from the battery. Available now in production quantities, the TPS63000 costs $2.75 in 1000-piece quantities. Evaluation modules and applications notes are also available, at www.ti.com/tps63000-pr.
