CDT sells half of US equipment subsidiary

Cambridge, UK — Cambridge Display Technology has sold a 50 percent equity interest in its Pleasanton-based subsidiary Litrex to Ulvac of Chigasaki, Japan.

Litrex equipment is being used to print full colour displays based on CDT's LEP technology. Litrex will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in California to develop larger substrate printers for LEP and other applications.

Ulvac was set up in 1952 and supplies equipment for a number of applications including electronics, data communications, energy, environment, transportation, pharmaceuticals, food products, chemicals, and biotechnology.

Ulvac already has an existing sales and service contract with Litrex. It will continue to develop equipment for LEP manufacture as well as for other technologies such as LCD and wiring applications.

One of Ulvac's strategic strengths is its involvement in development and sales of advanced ink jettable materials called 'Nano Metal Ink' (Ag, Au, Cu, ITO and others) which can provide direct wiring via ink jet printing systems for packaging applications.
