Cobham chief Cook gets CBE

LONDON — Allan Cook, chief executive of Cobham plc, has been awarded and CBE for services to the defence and aerospace industries.

Cook joined the group from BAE Systems where he was group managing director of programmes and managing director of Eurofighter. He was formerly group managing director of GEC-Marconi Avionics and chief executive of Hughes Aircraft (Europe).

He started his aerospace career as an electronics development engineer at Ferranti, Scotland, before it was folded into a Marconi operation. Later he moved to Bourns Electronics, where he spent some 10 years in sales and marketing. In 1991 he joined Hughes Microelectronics, rising to become MD of Hughes Europe at Hughes Electronics, based in Brussels.

Cook is a president of the Society of British Aerospace Companies Ltd.

Cobham recently agreed to buy the surveillance and attack business unit of BAE Systems Inc for $240 million.
