Combine voice and video over IP without compromising power

Now manufacturers of handheld consumer devices can provide WLAN capability without compromising battery life, thanks to Freescale Semiconductor's WLAN solution. This highly integrated IEEE 802.11 a/b/g wireless platform is intended for video and audio conferencing, video streaming and voice-and-video-over-IP (V2IP) applications.

Based on programmable modem technology and complete with Windows CE and Linux operating-system driver suites, the integrated solution incorporates Freescale's i.MX21 applications processor with the LP1070 WLAN baseband processor for a comprehensive hardware and software solution. The LP1070 solution provides increased power-efficiency—not just in standby mode, but also in active mode, without sacrificing range and speed. Potential applications include portable media players, smartphones, VoIP cordless handsets, wireless gaming consoles and digital still cameras.

Both the i.MX21 multimedia application processors and the LP1070 processors are available today. More information on Freescale's wireless LAN solutions can be found at
