Communication processors target multi-service business gateways

Milpitas, Calif.—LSI Corp. has launched the Advanced PayloadPlus 2200 (APP2200) family of advanced communication processors for multi-service business gateways, a move that extends the chip vendor's technology beyond its traditional core, edge and access applications.

APP2200 provides networking providers with powerful multi-service business gateway products serving the small-and-medium business (SMB) and remote branch office (RBO) markets. The APP2200 portfolio enables network equipment vendors to deliver multi-service business gateways that support converged voice and data functions such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), virtual private networks (VPN), state-full inspection firewalls, Gigabit Ethernet LAN switches, application-aware QOS, network-attached storage (NAS) and print servers in a single scalable architecture.

According to LSI, the APP2200 portfolio processes data at up to 3 Gigabits per second, which is approximately 10 times faster than alternative products. The APP2200 products integrate a dedicated packet processor, classifier, traffic manager, security engine, voice processing, and a high-performance dual-core control and services processor.

The APP2200 will be available in July 2007.
