Continuous Computing delivers fully-integrated systems for IPTV, security, wireless core apps

San Diego, Calif. — Supporting the company's strategy to support telecommunications equipment manufacturers (TEMs), Continuous Computing has unveiled its FlexTCA product family of fully-integrated systems for creating IPTV, security and wireless core solutions, aimed at Tier II and Tier III TEMs.

The FlexTCA standards-based platform combines Trillium software pre-integrated with a complete suite of AdvancedTCA (ATCA) hardware to deliver a complete system that is said to yield a faster time to market and increased program return on investment (ROI) of up to 50 percent over legacy alternatives.

Continuous Computing estimates that customers can cut product delivery cycles in half by deploying application-ready systems such as FlexTCA. The majority of TEMs currently use a combination of in-house product development coupled with integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) building blocks, said the company.

The FlexTCA integrated systems bundle an assortment of software, hardware and service components. Software components include the Trillium family of system software, fault-tolerant protocol software, SAF-compliant high availability middleware, platform management services, and high availability switching software. The ATCA hardware components include FlexChassis carrier-class shelves, FlexCompute single blade computers, FlexCore switches with load balancing software, and FlexPacket packet processing blades. Resources include access to customer program managers, customer architects, field sales engineers, technical support personnel, and Trillium professional services.

FlexTCA systems are differentiated by a Unified Management Interface (UMI) — a single point of access for managing all the system hardware, Trillium protocols, and Service Availability Forum (SAF)-compliant middleware, said Continuous Computing. The UMI provides one interface to monitor, manage, maintain, and upgrade the entire system, resulting in time and cost savings through streamlined field operations and troubleshooting transactions, added the company.
