CRL Opto buys manufacturing assets of MicroVue

London, UK — CRL Opto Limited (UK), a supplier of high-resolution F-LCOS microdisplays and microdisplay-based products, has acquired the microdisplay production assets of MicroVue from the company's liquidators. CRL Opto intends to re-commence the production of its microdisplays and CRL Opto has acquired all remaining stocks of microdisplays and ASIC drivers.

CRL Opto will integrate the production of its F-LCOS microdisplays into its business and will increase its focus on providing its full colour high-resolution microdisplays directly to customers in rapidly growing volume markets.

It already has design wins with optical engine and sees future applications in defence training and simulation, printing, near-to-eye headsets, automotive and medical devices.

Greg Truman, managing director of CRL Opto, said, “the purchase of microdisplay production assets is an exciting opportunity for CRL Opto and its customers as we continue to expand and develop new products for both specialist and volume markets.”

CRL Opto has patent protected, Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal On Silicon (F-LCOS) microdisplay products. The SXGA (1280 x 1024 pixels) is a 0.9″ fully digital microdisplay capable of generating full motion, full colour (24 bit), high-resolution images from a single chip. The CRL Opto microdisplays have ferroelectric liquid crystal material sandwiched between a reflective silicon circuit and a glass front plate.
