With the current Intel Core platform, Coffee Lake H (eighth generation), having been officially launched, DATA MODUL can provide customers with samples of the corresponding COM Express Basic Type 6 modules. These reference modules can then be immediately put into production on baseboards, or used for customer-specific single board computers (ODM designs). With the official Intel launch of the new Coffee Lake H platform, a further module will be now available as a building block, directly after Kaby Lake: eDM-COMB-CF6, a COM Express Basic Type 6 module with Intel Core i5/i7 and 8th generation Xeon processors for the high-performance sector. “Gigabit wireless speed”, “6 cores” and “10 Gbps with USB3.1” are the current buzz phrases for this new generation.
The scope of the DATA MODUL standard function for all COM Express products includes the uniform, internally-developed DMEC embedded board controller (DATA MODUL Embedded Controller), which boasts the following features: IO-MUX for the interfaces, Window Watchdog, UART, GPIO, RTM, board information, I²C-Bus, SPI and PWM. Special features, such as a CAN controller, can also be integrated without any additional hardware costs. For this, “EAPI drivers” are available for Windows and Linux for the complete portfolio and for all future extensions.
The eDM-COMB-CF6 is equipped to the high-end standard, being the first to provide six cores, 14nm Intel Core i7 and Xeon processors, and offers a 12MB L2 cache with the Xeon E-2176M , and a 9MB L2 cache with the i7-8850H, at a TDP of 35-45 watts. On an intermediate level, it is equipped with an Intel Core i5 quad core, which offers an 8MB L2 cache at a TDP of 35-45 watts.
The integrated graphics include the latest in Intel Gen 9 HD graphics generation, the GT2. It supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 5.0, OpenCL 2.1, as well as MPEG-2 hardware decoding, WMV9 (VC-1), H.264 (AVC) and ultra HD Blu-ray for the fluid playback of HD video material. HDCP 2.2 support with HDMI 1.4 enables the processing of 4k content (UHD @ 30Hz), as well as of 4k content with (UHD @ 60Hz) via DP1.2. It enables up to three independent, 4k resolution displays with different content to be controlled at the same time. Alongside 3 x DP1.2/HDMI 1.4/DVI, eDP 1.4 (optional) is also available for display interfaces. In doing so, the new, high-resolution 4k TFTs with eDP input can be used without having to redesign the customer’s “Plug&Play” baseboard. In the standard version, an additional converter will be brought out with the tried and tested dual channel 24 Bit LVDS interface, instead of the eDP 1.4 (embedded DisplayPort).
The interfaces defined in the standard are being brought out as follows: 4x USB 3.0 (XHCI), 8 x USB 2.0 (EHCI), 2 x UART (COM1/2), 8 x PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes which can be configured as x1/x2/x4, 1x PEG x16 Gen 3.0, 4 x SATA (6Gb/s), RAID 0,1,5,10 support with Rapid Storage Technology and Smart Response Technology, LPC Bus, GPIOs, SMB 2.0, I²C Bus and SPI Bus for onboard or external Flash memories. Intel HD audio controller, and the module is fitted with the Intel I219-LM GbE LAN controller with AMT 11.6 support for network integration. With regards to security, the optional fitting of a TPM 1.2 chip or a TPM 2.0 chip is possible. Operating system support is offered for all common versions of Linux, and for Microsoft Windows 10. In addition to configuration for each operating system, on the software side of things, DATA MODUL offers continuous further development of the firmware, in addition to support in the creation and modification of hardware drivers for various peripheral devices.
