ACE Awards to be announced at ESC Silicon Valley 2017
Out of all the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) events that take place around the world each year, the Silicon Valley ESC boasts a certain je ne sais quoi.
In addition to the fact that ESC Silicon Valley is co-located with the BIOMEDDevice show (you can't get much more embedded than a device that's implanted inside a human being), it also takes place in conjunction with the ACE (Annual Creativity in Electronics) Awards.
In partnership with EE Times and EDN, the ACE Awards showcase the best of the best in today's electronics industry, including the hottest new products, start-up companies, design teams, executives, and more.
This is actually something of a sumptuous event -- a bit like the engineering equivalent of the Oscars -- including exuberant cheers from the winners and frustrated grimaces from the losers. Happily, a good time is had by all.
Of course, no one knows who the winners are until the night. For each category, various companies are informed that they are finalists, but the ultimate victor remains a secret until the announcement is made on-stage.
To the best of my knowledge, we've never had an Oscar-esque 'Moonlight,' not 'La La Land' blunder. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will maintain our unblemished record this year, because yours truly has been invited to present the Ultimate Products Awards. I will, of course, be dressed appropriately for the occasion -- I will be sporting a formal [black and white] Hawaiian shirt (along with trousers, socks, and shoes, of course).
Will you be attending ESC Silicon Valley and/or the ACE Awards? If so, be sure to stop me and say "Hi." I'll be the one in the Hawaiian shirt. As always, all you have to do is shout "Max, Beer!" or "Max, Bacon!" to be assured of my undivided attention.
