Low-power 8-bit MCU embeds multiple peripherals
An energy-efficient 8-bit MCU, the STM8L050 from STMicroelectronics embeds analog peripherals, a DMA controller, and 256 bytes of EEPROM in an inexpensive SO-8 package with up to six user I/Os. The device processes up to 16 MIPS at 16 MHz, providing both economy and performance for resource-constrained consumer and high-volume applications.
An integrated DMA controller streamlines data transfers between peripherals and memory or from memory to memory. In addition, the STM8L050 packs a 4-channel, 12-bit ADC; two comparators; and a real-time clock with programmable alarm and periodic wakeup functions. Other features include 8 kbytes of flash memory, 1 kbyte of RAM, two 16-bit timers; one 8-bit timer; and multiple connectivity and debug interfaces.
Operating over a supply voltage range of 1.8 V to 3.6 V, the STM8L050 offers five power-saving modes to reduce current to as little as 350 nA in halt mode. Fast wakeup from halt mode is accomplished in just 5 µs. The microcontroller is fully specified over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Prices for the STM8L50 microcontroller, which is currently in production, start at $0.25 each in lots of 10,000 units.
