Design portal detects boards, downloads software
LONDON — On Semiconductor has launched a new plug-and-play cloud-based design portal which it claims has reimagined the process of research, evaluation and design of hardware systems by automatically detecting its boards and evaluation kits and downloading all the latest drivers, documentation and updates.
The concept is similar to an Apple iTunes approach specifically for the electronics design community. Development boards and evaluation kits available within On Semiconductor's new Strata Developer Studio, to be launched at CES, will always have the right software and drivers, ensuring products are designed with the most recent updates.
When a board is connected to the Strata platform via the host computer, it is automatically recognized and provides design teams with a user interface to the board, giving direct control of the configuration parameters and visual feedback of the board’s functionality. At the same time, Strata will download all the design information an engineer needs to start evaluation or design — including all the latest documentation, product information design and application notes and reference design files — which are delivered directly to the desktop.
The system is provided as a Microsoft signed application connecting to On Semiconductor's software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, featuring secure authentication, data transfers and full information containment using encrypted and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant databases. All information and security also follow National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity guidelines.
