Smart pressure sensor handles harsh environments

With no exposed corrodible metals, the MLX90818 absolute pressure sensor from Melexis survives rugged automotive under-the-hood applications. The device is factory-calibrated to cover a range of 1.0 bar to 5.5 bar and stands up to harsh media, such as fresh air mixed with high concentrations of corrosive gases like engine exhaust and halogens.

Along with the MEMS sensor, the MLX90818 houses analog front-end circuitry, a 16-bit microcontroller, voltage regulators, and a SENT (single edge nibble transmission) driver in a tiny 4×5-mm DFN package. It also provides a provision for connecting an external NTC thermistor for temperature measurement.
