Eleksen updates smart fabric controls; signs partnership with Scottevest

LONDON — Eleksen has introduced a new range of ready-to-integrate ElekTex smart fabric controls which includes an iPod controller, a gesture volume control for music players and a wearable Bluetooth control panel for music and communication devices.

The Eleksen (London, UK) fabric sensors have stirred interest at Scottevest (Ketchum, Idaho), a specialist in incorporating electronic equipment into clothing, and the two have signed a partnership agreement.

Eleksen’s wearable fabric controls are made from ElekTex, an entirely fabric switching technology, which contains no hard components with even the connections being made using conductive fabric ribbon cables. The design improves durability, washability and flexibility. The fabric is also breathable, pierce resistant and semi-translucent.

The controllers are ready-to-integrate into any suitable garment, backpack or other fabric product to provide a remote control for a range of technological devices, including iPods and Bluetooth enabled phones.

Scottevest has already selected the ElekTex volume control as a component to incorporate into some of its existing products.

For the volume controller, Eleksen has taken the benefits of its wearable fabric controls and developed an interface that allows any audio device featuring a standard headphone socket to be controlled by a wearable fabric controller. This product contains an amplifier circuit powered by two batteries, which create an audio output to headphones from portable audio devices such as MP3 players, CD players and FM radios.

The switch sensor, as well as being used as a series of buttons, can also be swiped or stroked so that the volume output is altered by a gesture rather than by just pressing.
