Ethernet module with 8051 MCU

TOMELILIA, Sweden — Invector Embedded Technologies' IP Avenger is a 10/100MBit Ethernet module with an integrated 8051 microcontroller. Measuring 34.5 x 54mm, this module is suitable for building small, powerful surveillance systems. Applications could range from temperature monitoring in supermarkets to vibration analysis of propeller shafts.

The embedded MCU of the module (Silabs C8051F021/23) has 64KB of in-application programmable flash and 4KB SRAM and two UART channels that allow the module to adapt to gateway applications. A RS232 or RS485 gateway application would require a small number of external components.

Other peripherals on the module are four channels of high-resolution 10/12 bits A/D converter with programmable gain amplifier, up to seven channels of high-speed 8bit A/D converter with programmable gain amplifier, two channels 12-bit Voltage DAC, I2C/SMBus, SPI, and a five-channel counter array. The MCU is capable of delivering 20MIPS peak performance with the supplied clock options and an on board JTAG connector eases debug and downloading of code.

An evaluation kit is available that contains all the tools for a development and includes one IP Avenger and a JTAG/serial adapter. An IDE with debugger comes on the supplied CD, which also includes a copy of the latest SDCC binaries as well as a sample application to give the user more insight into the capabilities of the module.
