A common charger for mobile phones—what a concept! We all know what a pain it is to have a different charger for every mobile product. Heck, I've a few dozen charger thrown in to a drawer. Wouldn't it be great if all the devices used the same charger? That's exactly the concept that's been adopted by the European Commission.
Those ten companies are Apple, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Texas Instruments.
European Union officials reached a deal with ten of the world's leading mobile-phone makers to introduce a universal charger, starting next year. The common charger will employ the Micro-USB connector.
They claim that it'll also have a positive effect on the environment, because fewer charger will be thrown away.
It's a small step forward, but a biggie in my book.
