San Jose, Calif.Developers creating embedded processor-based systems can wield The PowerPC and MicroBlaze Development Kit, Virtex-4 FX12 Edition from Xilinx, Inc. Comprised of an integrated platform with hardware, design tools, intellectual property, and reference designs, the development kit supports both the PowerPC 405 “hard” processor and the MicroBlaze “soft” processor for Xilinx Virtex-4 FX series of FPGAs.
Specific components of the kit are a Virtex-4 ML403 development board; fully licensed versions of the Platform Studio embedded tool suite and the Integrated Software Environment FPGA design software; more than 60 IP cores; JTAG probe; serial and Ethernet cables; power supply; preconfigured flash memory; verified reference designs; and documentation.
Of these components, the ML403 board carries a Virtex-4 FX12 FPGA and a PowerPC 405 processor containing 10-, 100-, and 1,000-Mbit/sec. Ethernet controllers. To speed system prototyping and evaluation, it also has peripherals, memory, audio, video, and user interfaces. The tool suite lets you choose the most effective processor core for the target application, customize IP, optimize performance, and validate software on the development board.
The reference designs present a broad range of options for configuring the system. Included are hardware and software implementations to exercise the development board's Ethernet, DDR memory, and video and audio functions, as well as demonstrations of Wind River Systems' VxWorks and Monta Vista Software's operating systems.
The development kit's tool suite and FPGA design software run under Windows 2000 (SP2 to SP4) and XP (SP1, SP2), Solaris (2.8/5.8 and 2.9/5.9), and Red Hat Linux (Enterprise 3.0) operating systems.
The PowerPC and MicroBlaze Development Kit, Virtex-4 FX12 Edition, (part number DO-ML403-EDK-ISE) is available now and sells for $895.
