LONDON The fifth annual U.K. PROFIBUS and PROFINET user conference is to be held at Stratford on Avon on June 24 and 25 and will include a conference covering technology updates and user application experience, workshops covering the practical aspects of using, installing and troubleshooting field installations, and an exhibition.
The event has moved location for 2008 to the Stratford Manor Hotel, Stratford on Avon and there is no charge for entry into the Exhibition, for industrial visitors, with pre-registration via PROFIBUS U.K., required to establish the company contact address with the organizers.
Exhibiting companies include Siemens Automation and Drives, Siemens Process Instrumentation, ABB Automation and Instrumentation, Pepperl + Fuchs, Endress + Hauser, Wago, Burkert, MTL Instruments, BEKA Displays, Procentec Hi Port and Westermo Digital Communications. There will also be representation from professional bodies like the IET and InstMC, from Manchester Metropolitan University and several automation and process magazines. Most stands will show working models of PROFIBUS and PROFINET automation and communication systems.
Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) acts as the U.K. PI Competence Centre (PICC), providing technical PROFIBUS and PROFINET support to end-users and vendors, in the form of training courses, including seminars and workshops, and on-site consultancy. For 10 years as a PICC, courses have been scheduled both at the MMU and on site to train engineers, technicians and installers in the design, installation and maintenance of PROFIBUS and PROFINET systems. MMU also runs similar training courses for engineers on AS-i systems and PLC programming. C
During 2007 the PROFIBUS installed base grew to exceed 23,000,000 nodes while the number of installed PROFINET nodes rose to 1.14 million. During 2007 the number of PROFIBUS PA devices in the field increased by 120,000 to 750,000, bringing the total number of PROFIBUS nodes (PA + DP) installed in the process industry to 4 million, which corresponds to an additional 700,000 nodes in 2007. The number of PROFIsafe nodes increased by 180,000 to 410,000 in 2007, and the number of PROFIsafe systems by 15,000 to 41,000.
