Gothenburg-based Fingerprint Cards is joining the Texas Instruments digital signal processing (DSP) third-party network. The company's chip-based system can bring a user authentication solution to portable electronic communications devices.
Fingerprint's biometric system enables the analysis of the unique fingerprint patterns of an individual and determines their personal identity. Fingerprint Cards' software, the Distinct Area Detection (DAD) algorithm, is available on TI's TMS320C5000 and TMS320C6000 DSPs.
This supports development of biometric-enabled products in market applications in handheld computing and mobile wireless communications. TI's thirdparty network will allow the two companies to provide co-ordinated support for the implementation of embedded fingerprint authentication.
The DAD Algorithm takes up 8KB and supports two types of compact fingerprint sensor technology developed by Fingerprint Cards.
