Free firmware operates with wireless networking transceivers

Micrel's MicrelNet is a free firmware stack that operates with the company's MICRF505 and MICRF506 RadioWire transceivers. The combination creates a wireless networking solution for telemetry, building, and residential home control.

The MICRF505 operates from 850 to 950 MHz and supports FSK modulation at data-rates up to 200 kbits/s. The part's high level of integration reduces the number of necessary external components to just a handful of capacitors, one inductor, and a crystal. The MICRF506 transceiver operates from 410 to 450 MHz and also supports FSK modulation at data-rates up to 200 kbits/s. Many functions are user programmable including the frequency synthesizer, suiting the part for frequency-hopping applications.

The MicrelNet firmware stack supports wireless networking with a star networking topology. It can be configured to operate as a basic star network to a complex multi-level, multi-cluster solution with repeat functionality.
