Frontier ships combined digital TV and digital radio chip

LONDON — Kings Langley-based Frontier Silicon has started shipping in volume a combined DVB-T and DAB system-on-chip. The Logie IC enables a low cost set top box which can allow users to receive all available Freeview digital television channels and DAB digital radio channels from one unit.

The first product to feature the Logie device is a set top box produced by Goodmans.

Logie provides all the functions required for receiving DVB-T and DAB, fully decoding this input to an analogue video and audio output. It also provides multimedia system support through its integrated ATAPI and AV-interface for integrating DVD playback capability and pay-TV application support through a common interface as well as dual smartcards.

Anthony Sethill, CEO of Frontier Silicon, said, “Our Logie device enables set top box manufacturers to produce low cost boxes with considerable consumer appeal, including the reception of 24 digital TV channels and 50 or more digital radio (DAB) channels that are all free.”
