Gigabit Ethernet controllers based on PCI Express target consumer apps

Based on a PCI Express bus architecture, a family of NetLink Gigabit Ethernet controllers are aimed at consumer and small-to-medium sized business PCs. These second-generation parts now support PCI and PCI Express while achieving a competitive price-performance ratio. Hence, PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet network performance can now be found in consumer applications.

Broadcom's NetLink controller enables low power consumption and a high level of reliability and stability. The PCI Express controller is based on seven generations of media access controller (MAC) technology. The NetLink BCM5789 Gigabit Ethernet controller is pin compatible with Broadcom's PCI-based BCM5788 Gigabit Ethernet controller. The BCM5789 is currently in production.
