GPON optical network termination chip integrates VoIP, Ethernet switching

Mountain View, Calif.—BroadLight is getting ready to sample the BL2347 GPON Optical Network Termination (ONT) SoC targeted at lowering the cost of residential ONTs.

The BL2347 extends BroadLight's product coverage for all ONT types by integrating voice and Ethernet switching features. The BL2347 integrates a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) DSP and a 4-port Ethernet switch and provides a throughput performance of 1-Gbits/s for any packet size on its gigabit Ethernet port.

With its interoperability proven GPON MAC and PONMaker software, the BL2347 offers ONT equipment vendors a fast and reliable path to market with the assurance that it will interoperate with any ITU-T G.984 compliant Optical Line Terminal (OLT).
