Growth to return for embedded boards

Wellingborough, UK — The European market for embedded computer boards is forecast to return to growth during 2004 after suffering two consecutive years of market contraction.

An analysis from IMS Research shows the market, which includes both passive and active backplane solutions, was estimated to be worth €541.0 million in 2002, well down on the 2001 result. The market declined again in 2003 to approximately €534.0 million, but a forecast return to growth in 2004 will result in the market being worth an estimated €661.2 million by 2007, a CAGR during the forecast period of 4.1%.

According to IMS although the main factors effecting market growth have remained the same for many years, renewed growth in the major end-equipment markets is stimulating the demand for embedded computer boards.

In 2004, the highest growth is forecast for transportation, military, medical and industrial applications. The board form-factors that are forecast to experience above average growth during this period are PC/104, 3.5″, EBX, PrPMCs and Compact PCI (CPCI).
