Hardware-software combo offers higher performance and faster time to market for security appliance OEMs

Freescale Semiconductor has introduced four comprehensive solutions for the UTM/security appliance market. These offerings enable OEMs to quickly and cost effectively develop a range of security applications including UTM appliances, IPS/IDS appliances, content security appliances, secured routers, VPN routers, secured switches and business gateways.

As the first implementation of the VortiQa application software, the solutions include multicore QorIQ and PowerQUICC processors, and leverage a rich ecosystem of vertical-specific partners. The offerings are designed to help security appliance OEMs deliver next-generation performance and energy efficiency at cost-effective price points. And because they're built with production-ready VortiQa application software, customers can significantly reduce product design and development cycles.

The solutions offer tightly integrated silicon, operating systems, boards, and application software required to create a broad range of security appliances. The solutions scale on a performance level from 4 to 20 Gbits/s performance.

The complete suite of security appliance solutions includes the Portwell 1U UTM security appliance, based on Freescale's QorIQ P2010 single-core processor for small enterprise value systems; the Portwell 1U UTM security appliance, based on the QorIQ P2020E dual-core processor for mid enterprise low power systems; the Advantech 4U eight-way network platform based on the QorIQ P4080 8-core processor for high end enterprise or service provider systems; the O2 Security 1U network security appliance based on the PowerQUICC MPC8572E dual-core processor for mid enterprise IPS based deployments; the O2 Security 1U Network Security Appliance based on the PowerQUICC MPC8540E single-core processor for small to mid enterprises; the Curtiss-Wright single-board computer based on QorIQ P4080 for embedded, aerospace, and military security applications; the Silicon Turnkey security board with the PowerQUICC II MPC8541 and MPC8555 single-core processors for network security applications; and the Bit-Defender antivirus protection solution with VortiQa on QorIQ platforms.
