HARDWARE TOOLS: Avnet, Cypress upgrade Spartan-3A FPGA evaluation kit
Avnet ElectronicsMarketing Americas and Cypress Semiconductor have teamed up on anupgrade of the Spartan-3A FPGA Evaluation Kit.
The upgraded kit includes the addition of Cypress' CY3217 (MiniProg)Programmer to the Xilinx Spartan-3A FPGA Evaluation Kit, which enablestouch sensing capability, USB connectivity, and analog programming. Thekits, which were released May 15, are being offered exclusively fromAvnet for $39.
The Avnet Spartan-3A FPGA Evaluation Kit pairs Xilinx low-costSpartan-3A 400A FPGA technology with the Cypress PSoC programmablesystem-on-chip. The PSoC delivers flexibility for high-volumeapplications by enabling FPGA configuration and Flash memoryre-programming through a built-in USB interface, making it the perfectcompanion chip for FPGAs.
The included CY3217 MiniProg programmer and downloadable PSoCDesigner software enables reconfiguration of the PSoC device forevaluating integrated USB connectivity, CapSense touch sensing, clocks, and programmable analog functionality.
A single PSoC device can integrate as many as 100 peripheralfunctions, resulting in faster design time, freeing up board space, andreducing power consumption. This offers users flexibility andsignificant cost savings that will also reduce their time to market.
